NAADAC For Addiction Specialists and others

I feel very strongly about the treatment of addiction. I do not feel that anyone wakes up and states "I won't to be an addict today." I do however feel there are addicts that wake up and feel mentally, "I don't feel good, I am anxious, how do I get more of the substance so I can feel better? Addiction is real and I would not wish it on my worst enemy. I am grateful for this 8 part series that will be presented by NAADAC. When you complete the 8 part series and pass the CE online quizzes you can get a certificate in Digital Therapeutics. I think this training is a wonderful supplement to anyone's training in substance abuse treatment. I just registered for my Part I training and look forward to the certificate.
Advances in Technology in the Addiction Profession, Part I: Digital Therapeutics - Clinically Validated Behavioral Treatments for Substance Use Disorders Friday, July 23, 2021 @ 12:00-1:30pm ET (11CT/10MT/9PT) Watch: On-Demand Recording (coming soon...) Download: PowerPoint Slides (coming soon...) CE Credit: Online CE Quiz (coming soon...) Answers: Live Event Q & A (coming soon...) Description There are effective treatments for substance use disorders (SUDs), though they do not work for all patients and efficacy decreases over the long-term. Thus, there is an urgent need for new therapeutic options. This workshop will highlight research to support the development of safe and effective digital therapeutics (DTx), discuss strategies to accelerate their delivery to patients, and improve SUD treatment outcomes. DTx, a subset of digital health, consists of high-quality software programs to prevent, manage, or treat medical conditions. DTx that meet the definition of a medical device go through an FDA regulatory review process to be legally marketed in the US. The ultimate goal of this workshop is to illuminate NIH-supported and FDA-authorized DTx options for patients with SUDs. Presenter Will M. Aklin, PhD, is director of the Behavioral Therapy Development Program within the Division of Therapeutics and Medical Consequences at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). He received his Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Maryland. Aklin’s areas of research include development of treatments with theory-derived behavioral targets; studies that integrate behavioral/pharmacological treatment, and clinical validation/optimization of digital therapeutic interventions. Aklin has extensive experience in behavioral and cognitive-behavioral treatment for substance use disorders, adaptive brief interventions, and adherence trials. He has coordinated several National Institute of Health flagship initiatives, including partnering with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and NCI on the development and testing of behavioral therapies for substance use disorders, common fund initiatives, Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) initiative, and partnerships with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on digital therapeutics and device-based treatments for substance use disorders. Learning Objectives Participants will be able to discern which technologies constitute digital therapeutics. Participants will be able to describe digital therapeutics as stand-alone treatments or integrated with FDA-approved substance use disorder treatments. Participants will be able to summarize the FDA authorization process for digital therapeutics. Content Level Beginner Beginning level courses introduce learners to a content area; include information about a condition, treatment method, or issue; and involve learning and comprehending content.
